Lastminute appoints quartet for 'extra-travel' offer has bolstered its in-house comms team with four new recruits.

It wants to highlight its 'extra-travel' offerings such as theatre tickets, 'spa days' and gifts.

Former Woolworths PR manager Elena Antoniou has joined as head of UK PR. She is supported by former journalist Louise Prior and ex-Brighter PR consultant Jane Sinclair – who have become PR managers for lastminute and Travelocity. The team is completed by PR executive Hannah Shanks, who joins from Hill & Knowlton.

The quartet report to European head of corporate comms Claire Williams, who was promoted to her role in December 2004.

In 2005 Lastminute axed rostered consumer agencies Freud Communications, Rooster and Flare Communications (PRWeek, 4 March 2005). It also previously used The Maitland Consultancy for financial comms.

Williams said retaining multiple agencies had  proved too expensive. 'Consolidating PR was clearly going to deliver cost savings, and an in-house team will be more effective,' she added.
