Not to be outdone by his younger, tech-savvy rival, the Campbell campaign has also increased its exposure. Sir Menzies has paid out to ensure his 'Ming Campbell for Leader' campaign is positioned ahead of Huhne's 'Winning with Chris Huhne' when searching for any of the three rivals.

Huhne's campaign takes the plaudits though, for also placing a sponsored link on searches for Charles Kennedy.

Although his adversaries have deigned not to link to their former chief, three other sites have: a £115-a-day drug rehabilitation centre, alcoholic advice site and a website headed 'Charles Kennedy - Dead?'

The plot thickens.
