L'Entrecote on Marylebone Lane has received its fair share of criticism from the nation's restaurant reviewers. However, for a business lunch it is hard to beat.
Full most lunchtimes, the restaurant serves just one set meal of green salad with walnuts followed by steak, with a secret recipe sauce, and chips. Puddings and cheese, if your waistline can take it, are extra.
It is a welcome change not to have to wade through an extensive menu and a good steak and chips is always a treat, especially when a second portion is offered - a nice touch. Judging by the buzz at lunchtimes and rumours that some local businessmen are eating there up to three times a week, the idea has caught on.
For a steak-eating client, it's the perfect place to go if you want to do business, discuss next year's campaign and catch up socially - and you can be as quick or as leisurely as you want.
The French-style waitress service is pleasant and efficient with perhaps the only criticism being that you can't book. Also, the tables are positioned close together so perhaps it's not the place to come to discuss the latest secret product launch. That said, you do get the chance to rub shoulders with the odd celeb or famous rugby player.
