Content contracts 'will benefit PROs'
PROs could best serve their clients by signing formalised, mutually beneficial contracts with magazines, according to Phil Hilton, editor of lads’ mag Nuts.
'With a formal contract you can guarantee how much space your client will get, and the publication date, and we could ensure we had exclusivity,' he said.
'People phone and we tell them what we think we can do with the story, but sometimes we have to change that – and misunderstandings can lead to us losing exclusivity. Why not tie both parties down and ensure we both get what we want?'
Hilton said he no longer thought of himself as a print journalist, saying he spent as much time developing web and mobile phone content.
