TV firm Flextech nets BBC adviser

Flextech Television, the programming arm of cable company Telewest, has appointed Patrick Robinson as its first head of public affairs.

Robinson will spearhead lobbying and develop its relationship with Ofcom.

He joins from the BBC, where he was an adviser in the broadcaster's strategy division.

Robinson said Flextech was especially keen to liaise closely with Ofcom over 'debates on production and the future of digital terrestrial'.

He reports to director of rights Debbie Manners, who said: 'Patrick's appointment reflects the importance we place on our growing role in UK television and the unique perspective and investment we bring to this market.'

Flextech operates Bravo, LivingTV, Trouble and Challenge, as well as the UKTV network alongside BBC Worldwide. Telewest, whose merger with NTL is expected to complete next month, is
rumoured to be considering a sale or flotation of Flextech.
