Biotech firm Rockeby readies thrush self-test

A Singapore-based biotech firm is planning a campaign to ease the path into the UK market of a self-test for the painful and embarrassing condition of thrush.

Rockeby Biomed, which develops rapid diagnostic tests for infectious diseases, has briefed Fuel PR to handle UK corporate, trade and consumer PR for its Candia5 product. Rockeby is currently seeking a UK sales and marketing partner for Candia5, which is already available in Italy.

The company is to call on 300 women in London and Birmingham to test the product from March. It will then publicise the results to doctors to illustrate how the six-minute self-test works.

Thrush can be difficult to diagnose, but symptoms include soreness, redness and itching in the vagina, and pain during sex or the passing of urine. At least three out of four women will experience thrush at some time in their lives.

Fuel reports to Rockeby vice-president of marketing Nick Plumeridge.
