Medtronic hires Beach to head comms team

Medical technology company Medtronic has appointed Dan Beach as head of comms.

Beach joins from GCI where he was V-P of health Europe and managed the agency's global account with Medtronic. He left last month (PRWeek,  27 January).

At Medtronic – which has products such as Endeavor, its device for unblocking arteries – he replaces Joe McGrath, who has returned to global HQ in Minneapolis.

Watford-based Beach reports to regional V-P and general manager (UK and Ireland) Geoff Morris and Yvan Deurbroeck, senior director of public and media relations (EMEA).

Beach has both UK and Continental responsibilities, working as part of a seven-strong UK external affairs team and a 20-strong European comms team. He will split his time between the UK and Switzerland.

Beach joined GCI in London in 1997. He led GCI's pitch for the Medtronic account in 2001 and had 'personally managed the
account across 19 countries and four continents'.

Despite Beach's move in-house, Medtronic will continue to use GCI for UK advice, with account manager Rebecca Fancini now leading the business.

But Medtronic's non-UK European account is now being managed by Jeremy Clark, joint-MD of healthcare at GCI's sister WPP agency Cohn & Wolfe UK, into whose offices GCI Healthcare recently relocated (PRWeek,  27 January).
