Malaysia ramps up tourism drive

Tourism Malaysia has taken on BGB Communications as the country contests Thailand for visitors.

It will stage a 'Visit Malaysia' year in 2007, a campaign to break the 20-million-tourist mark before Thailand, which has forecast doing so in 2008.

BGB clinched the brief from an eight-strong shortlist that included Halpern, Leicester-based Axis PR and Mabox.

Tourism Malaysia has been without PR support since Seal Communications declined to repitch after last August's review.
'Malaysia has everything from a high-tech capital to the Orangutan forests of Sarawak,' said BGB managing director Debbie Hindle. 'We will be targeting thecorporate and conference markets, as well as the consumer sector.'

Tourism Malaysia UK and Ireland deputy director Libra Haniff said the Visit Malaysia campaign was being devised by the Kuala Lumpur office.
