Lambeth PCT ups no-smoking ante

Lambeth Primary Care Trust is urging residents to quit smoking with a controversial campaign in local newsagents.

It is targeting smokers of Marlboro Lights, Benson & Hedges and Mayfair cigarettes, which it has identified as the most eager to give up.

The trust has distributed 10,000 promotional sleeves promoting patches, gum and inhalators to GP's surgeries, chemists, gyms, libraries and newsagents. But it is also encouraging newsagents to put them round cigarette packs.

The Dr Foster-led campaign is backed by Vauxhall MP Kate Hoey. However, Marlboro owner Philip Morris has said it is investigating the campaign for breaching UK law.

* Lambeth Council has hired Edelman marketing manager Julie Haley as comms and marketing manager. She joins on 23 January.
