US cruise firm to target UK market

American cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is on the hunt for an agency to handle consumer PR in the UK and Ireland.

The operator will launch its first route from the UK this year, encroaching on rival Carnival Cruise's territory.

The £490m Freedom of the Seas, which Royal Caribbean claims will be the biggest cruise ship in the world, makes her maiden voyage from Southampton in April. Passengers using Royal Caribbean have previously had to sail from Miami.

'The UK has the biggest share of the cruise market in Europe, so there are huge opportunities,' said EMEA comms director Paddy MacGregor. Fees for the account are around £100,000.
