Brent PCT prints sex advice mag

Brent Primary Care Trust is seeking to reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy in the borough with a campaign aimed at 14 to 16-year-olds.

The PCT is working with medical information company Dr Foster to produce a magazine and promotional card, which will be distributed in places frequented by teenagers. Brent has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country.

'We consulted groups of teenagers and they came up with the idea of a free magazine, available in places they hang out,' said Brent PCT head of press and comms Caroline McGuane.

A card on the front of the magazine will offer readers free condoms and discounts at local retailers.

The campaign, which launches next week, will involve young volunteers delivering safe-sex messages 'on the street'. Consultation revealed those in the target group were more likely to listen to peers than adults.
