Letter: Cancer Research ads had wide benefits

We were disappointed to read that Bowel Cancer UK CEO Neil Brookes was concerned by our Tube poster campaign ('Bowel Cancer UK attacks rival group over Tube ads,' PRWeek, 25 November).

Many people give both to cancer research and cancer care charities, and we do not feel that Cancer Research's fundraising activity has a detrimental effect on this.

As a charity that spends over £217m on research each year, including £14m on bowel cancer, we feel it is essential that our fundraising campaigns reflect the work we do.

Many of our donors are motivated by seeing how our research affects patients, and this was reflected in the 'I Shouldn't Be Here' posters to which Brookes referred. It was an excellent platform from which to increase understanding of our goals through world-class research, as well as a way to raise funds.
