Hit or Miss... The great Elephant & Castle giveaway

With just £3,000 to spend promoting regeneration in Elephant & Castle, south London, on behalf of developer Oakmayne Properties, Complete Media Group director Kirk Hoatsen decided to give most of the money away. There were 308 £5 notes glued to a poster for passers-by to grab, and 20 £5 notes sent to journalists to alert them to the stunt. Despite some reports of an 'unruly stampede', Hoatsen said it was all good fun: 'One trade mag thought we were bribing them, but most of them got it.'
