August.One chief Brooks quits

August. One Communications has been hit by the resignation of MD and founding partner Sophie Brooks.

Brooks' decision to leave after 14 years in the Next Fifteen group follows that of ex-joint MD Stuart Handley, who joined Hill & Knowlton earlier this year.

The agency now has 30 staff, half the headcount it had two years ago. This is largely accounted for by Next Fifteen's decision to shift the Handley-managed Microsoft account to Inferno Communications in May.

August. One has moved quickly to promote board director Sarah Howe as  Brooks' replacement.

'There has been a lot of upheaval over the past year but we have a strategy to forge a name for ourselves in different sectors,' said Brooks. She cited the public sector, lifestyle, food and drink, utilities and professional services as potential new markets for the traditionally technology-focused agency.

Brooks is to leave on 16 December to spend more time with her family. She will continue to freelance for August. One on the agency's Jordans account. Howe takes up the post in December.

August. One clients include the Royal Mail, the Department for Education and Skills and Whirlpool.
