Pleon lures CDR gurus for German financial practice

DUSSELDORF: Omnicom-backed agency Pleon is making a bid for supremacy in the German financial comms market.

It is to launch a financial comms practice based in Dusseldorf and led by the founding partners of Citigate Dewe Rogerson Germany.

This month former CDR Germany MD Christof Schramm and director Elisabeth Ramelsberger rejoined colleagues Juergen Herres, Marc Drechsler and Dirk Strubberg in anticipation of the launch of the practice in January.

Herres, Drechsler and Strubberg left CDR last year to start Cognikom, a financial comms agency backed by BBDO, Omnicom's largest agency network.

Herres and Drechsler are now managing partners of the Pleon practice. Former CDR senior director Stefan Denig is to head a Pleon financial practice in Munich, while former  Deutsche Bank head of equity capital markets Reiner Rossmann is joining as MD of the Frankfurt office.

Sylvia Faber, who replaced Schramm as CDR Germany MD, said it closed its Dusseldorf office in August and moved to Frankfurt, the country's financial capital - to which none of CDR's Dusseldorf PROs wanted to relocate.

Pleon was created last year through the merger of Brodeur Worldwide's European operations and Germany's largest agency, ECC (PRWeek, 8 October 2004).
