Chime puts ad man in planning job

Chime Communications has broken new ground to create the position of head of PR planning. It said the role, taken by ad industry veteran Jon Leach, would bring a ‘golden thread of insight’ to the firm’s 17 PR agencies.

Leach said his role reflected PR's success in gaining larger contracts, and its integration with other marcoms disciplines. He moves from an advertising role as head of integration at Chime and was previously head of strategy at ad agency HHCL for ten years.

'Jon will be key on complex accounts for which more than one division is working,' said Chime PR division chair Kevin Murray, to whom Leach reports.

'You need central thought to establish and plan exactly what each brand needs. It's something the advertising industry is traditionally very good at.'

Leach added: 'My role is to impart a real understanding of what the client needs and how the behaviour of end-users needs to be changed.'

He said he would work on FTSE 100 and six-figure-plus PR contracts.
