Revolver in reshuffle as founder Ballantine quits

Revolver Communications has been hit by the resignation of founding MD and creative director Martin Ballantine.

Head of guerrilla marketing  Damon Statt is also leaving the 12-year-old consumer agency. The exits are not believed to be directly connected and neither have new roles lined up.

Revolver was bought by Leeds-based marketing agency Propaganda last year for a six-figure cash sum (PRWeek, 4 June 2004).

Propaganda MD Mike Phillipson has moved quickly to bring in Penny Brignell, of late a music PR specialist, to the newly created role of Revolver CEO, with director Trudi Smith becoming managing director. Ballantine was closely involved in succession planning.

Ballantine, who left last Friday, said: 'I look forward to seeing Revolver do well under the new team. We've become synonymous with creativity in the industry and I can't think of a better legacy for the agency than that.'

The 16-strong agency (ten in London and six in Leeds) has clients such as Ben & Jerry's, Butterkist, nu:u, Onken, Quorn and RHM.
It draws around a fifth of its fee income from guerrilla marketing.
Brignell joins on 21 November and will be the 'face' of Revolver, while Smith, who has been with the agency for four years, will maintain a hands-on role.

Brignell joins from a position as head of PR at music agency Best PR. She was previously at BSkyB.

Ballantine said: 'I've been mulling what route I want to take – it's been a brilliant ride at Revolver but fascinating to meet up to discuss with people, inside and outside PR, as to what to do next. Twelve years is a long time in any job these days.'

Statt, who has worked at Revolver for seven years, said: 'I need a change, I'll decide what I'm going to do in the new year.'

At the time of the Propaganda deal, Revolver's joint managing director, alongside Ballantine, was Simon Hesketh. He departed ten months ago and is believed to have left the PR industry.
