C&W’s Gilthorpe defects to BT arm

BT has poached Emma Gilthorpe, group director of regulatory affairs at rival telecoms company Cable & Wireless, to be director of equivalence and public affairs for its new division, Openreach.

The division, announced by the company in September, will take responsibility for the nationwide BT network.

Regulator Ofcom has rejected calls from telecoms competitors for BT to be broken up.

In a statement, Gilthorpe said she hoped Openreach could deliver 'equivalence' to the market by creating a level playing field between BT's own retail operations and its rivals. She joins on 1 December.
