Mexico's soccer team recruits comms boss

Mexico's national soccer team has appointed Carlos Martinez Livy as communications and public relations director.

Under the newly created post, Livy will oversee the comms agenda for national trainer Ricardo La Volpe.

"I will be the link between La Volpe and journalists, scheduling interviews and providing them with information," Livya said,  adding that La Volpe no longer has time to handle this. "La Volpe has to be dedicated 100% to the team," he said.

Livy will work alongside Juan Jose Kochem, comms director for Mexico's soccer federation (FMF), which oversees the team's activities.

Livy and Kochem - who leads a 10-strong PR team - answer to Gillermo Kantu, manager of all of Mexico's soccer teams, including the national team, known as "seleccion mayor."

Livy's appointment comes shortly after Mexico's national team qualified for next summer's world cup after winning a 5-2 playoff with Panama. The team has a scheduled match with Bulgaria this week and with Hungary in December.
