PR – the industry is worth £6.5bn (the dairy industry is worth £6.2bn) and contributes £3.4bn to the British economy. In-house practitioners account for 82 per cent of all PROs.
Corporates now spend an average of £1.7m on PR, up 33 per cent on five years ago, but annual growth is forecast to slow to 2.6 per cent by 2010.
The report, which was produced in conjunction with the Centre for Economics and Business Research, also discovered a relatively mature workforce, with only five per cent under the age of 25. Less surprising was the prevalence of women executives(62 per cent).
