The Ethical Medicines Industry Group (EMIG) has called in Lexington Communications. It claims the blanket seven per cent cut imposed on pharma manufacturers for charges they make to the NHS is unfair on smaller firms.
The Government imposed the cut after its latest review of the longstanding Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS) at the start of 2005. But the OFT has since launched an inquiry into the PPRS, which Lexington director Sarah Doyle said could herald reform.
EMIG represents 45 lesser-known drugs companies trading in the UK. Lexington will present a submission to the OFT at the end of the month arguing the payment shortfall could cripple their R&D efforts and potentially put them out of business.
