MMD hires ex-Yukos comms chief for Moscow role

MOSCOW: MMD, the largest PR consultancy in central and eastern Europe, has snapped up the former international PR chief at Russian oil giant Yukos.

Hugo Erikssen has joined MMD as senior vice-president with a brief to provide corporate and public affairs counsel to companies undertaking IPOs.

MMD group chairman Alistair McLeish said: 'Hugo's excellent reputation in Russia, and his range of contacts, will help international clients starting or expanding their Russian operations.

'He will also be an expert resource for Russian companies looking to access international capital markets.'

Erikssen's arrival sees him work alongside MMD Russia general manager Stephen Lock, the founder of Ludgate Public Affairs and a co-founder of Cicero Consulting.

Erikssen, a Norwegian, was director of the international information department at Yukos between 1999 and 2004. Prior to that he was a journalist, serving as both a foreign reporter and war correspondent for a number of publications.

He has been based in the Russian capital since 1992.

Yukos's founder and former majority owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky is serving a nine-year prison sentence for tax fraud.
