Edge unveils marcoms chief to oversee review

Education charity Edge is reviewing its PR after appointing Vanessa Miner as marketing and communications director.

Miner, who was previously commercial partnerships director at TV producer Endemol, will review PR strategy before overseeing a competitive tender within the next few months.

As a charitable foundation, Edge was formed after the sale of Edexcel to Pearson. Its fund, of more than £70m, is used to help people realise their learning potential. A priority for Edge is promoting practical education as equally beneficial as learning from behind a desk.

'[Incumbent agency] Geronimo does a great job but is focused on the education side,' said Miner. 'I'll be reviewing the split between education and consumer PR and could bring in another agency.'
Miner described her role as moving Edge from a 'grant-giving' to a 'doing' agency.

'As a relatively new charity we are still developing a position and long-term objectives,' said Miner. 'Part of the review will look at better targeting of the charity's current activity.'

Miner worked for Endemol in both Holland and the  UK. Before that, she worked as a freelance for Newsdesk Communications, helping establish its practice in Washington DC.
