Hands takes new press role at No 10

Downing Street has promoted senior press officer Emily Hands to the role of chief press officer.

The post was vacated by Anne Shevas, who joined HM Revenue & Customs as head of group media relations (PRWeek, 13 October).

Hands now oversees a nine-strong team handling the Prime Minister's media relations.

She reports to Tony Blair's official spokesman Tom Kelly. Previous issues she has dealt with include the war in Iraq.
