Frederick Studemann has been made political correspondent of the Financial Times. He joined in 1996 as Berlin correspondent and has held the posts of UK correspondent and assistant news editor. 

Gemma Westacott, senior reporter at The Lawyer, has been promoted to features editor. She replaces Matt Byrne, who is now associate editor and will deputise for editor Catherine Griffiths.

Personnel Today has relaunched with a greater emphasis on practical advice for human resources practitioners. The Reed Business Information weekly will also have more analysis of trends, legal updates, case studies and examples of best practice. The editor is Karen Dempsey.

Daniel Thomas, deputy news editor of CMP Information business magazine Property Week, has been promoted to assistant editor, news. He replaces Robin Marriott, who is now City correspondent at daily paper City AM.
Condé Nast's contract publishing division is to publish a customer title for the Post Office. With a circulation of three million, the as-yet-untitled A5 magazine will contain lifestyle editorial plus product information. The editor-in-chief is Darius Sanai.

Recruitment newspaper Just Technical Jobs will launch on 25 November.  The monthly title, published by online network, will cover news, interviews and jobs in the engineering, rail and construction sectors. The editor is Clive Entwistle.

Quarterly magazine Arabella is due to launch this month. Aimed at Middle-Eastern women living in the UK, the lifestyle publication will cover beauty, family, fashion and entertainment. The editor-in-chief is Elvira Doghem-Rashid.

VNU Business Publications has launched Computing Business. The monthly magazine, aimed at senior decision makers in IT, is accompanied by a website, Editor is Bryan Glick.

Paula Newton is to join CNN in London as international correspondent, reporting across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She was previously at Canadian broadcaster CTV. ITV1's Early Morning News and GMTV presenter Isha Sesay joins CNN's international anchor team in Atlanta.

Natasha Kaplinsky this week began co-presenting BBC1's Six O'Clock News with George Alagiah. She is covering the maternity leave of regular newsreader Sophie Raworth. Amanda Farnsworth is editor of the programme.

Laura Hayes, former editor of, has been made editor of the Sun Woman section of The Sun Online. Her brief is to boost content in fashion, health and home. She reports to online editor Pete Picton.

New Scientist is to pilot a podcasting service, with its first edition available for download this week from The magazine plans to launch a full service early next year.
It is overseen by online manager John Macfarlane.

Lucy Charlewood, a freelance web editor and producer, has been made editor of, aimed at senior businesswomen and those who run their own companies. The site is to be relaunched in January with a number of new features.
