Under-fire church to boost comms

A church in east London is looking to bolster its 12-strong press team after a damning Charity Commission report on founder Matthew Ashimolowo.

The report, released in September, found evidence of 'serious mismanagement' of the Kingsway International Christian Centre's £8m annual income.

Director of comms Charlotte Coker said the negative coverage was 'something we have to deal with', and that she was looking to take on an extra press officer to rebuild the Hackney church's reputation by raising awareness of its charitable work.

'We need to spread the message that we raise funds for organisations and do a huge number of community activities,' she said.
