Emails at centre of Liverpool row

How private emails written by Liverpool City Council comms chief Matt Finnegan came to be published will be at the centre of an internal inquiry, after city councillors voted on a motion last week.

The move comes six months after the suspension of assistant executive director for media Finnegan (PRWeek, 15 April).

However, councillors backed down from proposing a disciplinary investigation into the conduct of the council's chief executive David Henshaw.

'A report will be produced into the circumstances surrounding the release of the emails. This will go to councillor David Antrobus who will decide if it should go to a select committee to be investigated further,' a council spokesman told PRWeek.

Finnegan was suspended after a row between Henshaw and council leader Mike Storey. Henshaw later accused Finnegan and Storey of conspiring to oust him from the council.
