If selected, Drummond would advise international development consultancy Adam Smith International (ASI) and could head to Iraq after elections scheduled for the new year.
ASI is under contract with DFID to provide technical support to the Iraqi government as part of the extended Emergency Public Administration Programme, in which DFID has invested £4.9m
Drummond, who covered the Iraq war for the FT and speaks fluent Arabic, told PRWeek he would be advising the Iraqi government on conducting focus groups, opinion polls and media relations.
DFID said it had not specifically requested Drummond's assistance but asked ASI to put forward a team of comms experts. The department added that the Iraqi government had the final say on the hire of consultants.
