No 10 press chief moves to HMRC

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has snared Number 10 chief press officer Anne Shevas to be its head of media relations.

Shevas joins next week, leading a 35-strong team dealing with national, regional and strategic comms and forward planning. Her team will work particularly closely with personal finance, economics, home news and crime journalists.

Shevas joined Number 10 five years ago. Downing St has yet to hire a replacement.

The hire completes HMRC comms and marketing director Chris Hopson's line-up of senior managers following the merger of
Inland Revenue with HM Customs and Excise.

Adam Goulcher started as head of strategic marketing on 3 October.
