FA set to beef up comms function

The Football Association is to bolster its PR team as it seeks to push more ‘good-news stories’ about the organisation and the game.

It will next week launch a recruitment search for a head of media relations, with the appointee acting as number two to director of comms Adrian Bevington.

The job will involve handling media calls for top FA executives, excluding coach Sven-Göran Eriksson, for whom Bevington will continue to act.

The FA's six-strong PR team is believed to feel swamped by an increasing volume of media enquiries over the past few years.

Bevington wants to ensure it has the manpower to put out proactive, positive news even during crises or busy periods, such as when the England squad convenes.
