GCI snaps up Business Link brief

Business Link, the government-backed advisory service for SMEs, has hired GCI in place of three-year incumbent QBO Bell Pottinger. The agency switch comes as the Government looks to boost entrepreneurship across the UK.

GCI saw off Luther Pendragon, Weber Shandwick and Good Relations to scoop the account in a competitive pitch. QBO did not repitch for the brief.

GCI will target national and trade media in England. Agency director Rhodri Harries said: 'This is not just about column inches. It is about encouraging and supporting a more entrepreneurial spirit and growth culture in the UK.'

Business Link unit head Mark Turner added: 'The challenge is to build an understanding of what Business Link can offer to a diverse audience, from start- ups to established firms.'

Business Link provides information and support not only to small and medium-sized businesses but also those looking to start up.

The agency review was handled by the Central Office of Information.
