Firms urged to cut ‘slips and trips’

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is calling on employers and staff to take more responsibility for workplace safety and reduce the number of ‘slip or trip’ accidents.

The 'Watch your step' campaign, handled by retained agency GCI, will emphasise the cost of compensation to businesses and the consequences of injury to employees.

GCI director Rhodri Harries said: 'The strapline we are using is "Don't just see it, sort it", and it is about simple actions people can
take in the workplace such as not leaving obstacles in people's way.'

The drive runs to the end of the year, targeting national and trade press. It is accompanied by an advertising campaign.

The UK economy has been estimated to lose £800m a year as a result of people falling over at work. More than 40,000 incidents were recorded last year.
