Horseracing puts Delmonte at helm

The British Horseracing Board has made Alan Delmonte PA director as it attempts to plug the funding gap created by the Government's abolition of the statutory betting levy.

The governing body had intended to replace the revenue by selling data rights - runners and riders lists - to bookmakers. But William Hill won a case against it in the Court of Appeal in July, scuppering the plan.

Delmonte will also represent the BHB on implementation of the Gambling Act and the Government's sale of The Tote.

He reports to CEO Greg Nichols and replaces outgoing secretary general Tristam Ricketts in driving policy alongside retained PA agency Hill & Knowlton.
