Taylor and Zetter battle it out for CIPR presidency

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations is gearing up for a two-way battle between Kevin Taylor and Lionel Zetter for its 2007 presidency.

Taylor is a director at Reading-based Companycare Communications and is a former chair of the CIPR's Thames and Chiltern regional group.

Zetter is director of two related companies - Parliamentary Monitoring Services and Political Wizard. He has spent two years as chairman of the CIPR's government affairs group.

Taylor is pledging to increase membership from its current level of just over 8,000 - 'but not at the expense of standards'. He said he wants all CIPR members to take part in the body's 'continuous professional development' scheme.

Zetter wants to tackle 'a widespread feeling of detachment among CIPR membership - in the regions, in the sectoral groups and among the fellows.'

Canvassing started this week among the CIPR's 4,700-plus voting members, who have until 14 October to vote.

The winner will be publicly declared on 21 October. During 2006 he will serve a year as president-elect to Tony Bradley, who takes over from current president Chris Genasi at the start of next year.
