Hugh Sawyer's decision to sleep rough in an Oxford ditch provoked an avalanche of coverage for his designated charity the Woodland Trust. His ability to still function in his job at auctioneer Sotheby's amazed The Observer: 'While his colleagues retreat to their posh pads, Sawyer is making do under a piece of tarpaulin.' The Evening Standard billed him as 'The commuter who sleeps under a tree', and a reporter from the Daily Mirror even joined him for a night.
