Mansfield moves to counter C4 jibe

Mansfield District Council has moved to defend the town's reputation after a Channel 4 programme recently branded the Nottinghamshire town the sixth worst place to live in the UK.

Council PROs collected 300 statements of support from residents and sent them to C4 bosses last week.

'It is hard to measure how much damage it has done but we know anyone watching the programme will have got the wrong impression,' said PR officer Rob Shirley.

Aired on 9 August,The Best and Worst Places to Live in the UK looked at crime, education, lifestyle and even rainfall. But statistics were used selectively, the council said. Epsom and Ewell in Surrey was voted the best place to live.

A C4 spokeswoman said: 'We are sorry they are unhappy, but we stand by the results of our findings which were thoroughly researched.'
