We hired Ben Turner in June 1999 as the fourth member of our broadcast PR firm. Ben was fresh out of university with a philosophy degree, but we employed him because he was the son of a friend and we needed an extra pair of hands.
Until then, all video production was outsourced, but Ben oozed natural ability and suggested we brought everything in-house and train him as an editor. In a leap of faith, we bought some frighteningly expensive equipment - one of the best decisions we ever made.
Five years, three edit suites and an OB facility later, Ben left as our manager of production for a career in film. His first short, Letting Go, has already been screened on the South Bank Show.
Ben Turner is now assistant producer on a $25m feature film being shot in Australia.
