Cartoon auction for blind charity

Crime fighting cartoon rodent DangerMouse is to feature alongside Bagpuss in a charity auction hosted by the National Library of the Blind (NLB).

The auction, which aims to raise around £50,000, is part of a wider campaign to raise the charity's profile as having the world's second largest collection of books for the visually impaired. With 350,000 titles, the Manchester-based library is smaller only than the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

Head of PR Claire Briscoe said the auction would feature an original animation cell of the cartoon DangerMouse signed by creator Brian Cosgrove and a watercolour of Bagpuss by creator Peter Firmin.

Other lots include a limited-edition print of all the Beano characters and cartoons by Mohamed Al Fayed, Chris Tarrant and Brian Blessed.

The auction will take place at the Lowry Hotel, Manchester on 14 October.
