director of corporate comms as the battle for ad revenue and corporate customers hots up between the big internet service providers.
With rivals MSN and Google striving to extend online facilities, Sawday has been briefed to build the brand among advertisers and promote Yahoo! services to business users.
He replaces Sue Jackson, who left to join pay-TV channel Discovery Networks Europe (PRWeek, 11 March). At the same time, Sawday left as head of group corporate affairs at BFG after a takeover by Icelandic venture capital outfit Baugur led to all BFG director roles being axed.
'Yahoo! is the most trafficked internet destination in the world so we are looking to reinforce the brand with our corporate stakeholders and promote our services to advertisers,' said Sawday.
He oversees a three-strong team in London plus corporate PR teams in Madrid, Paris, Munich and Milan, and reports to regional vice president and MD Yahoo! Europe Dominique Vidal. The company will continue to use Cohn & Wolfe for corporate PR.
