Diary: Alton, not Altman to speak at Forum

For eagle-eyed readers who spotted the howler on last week's front page, well done - we like to keep you on your toes.

For those who missed it, we'd like to point out The Observer editor's surname is Roger Alton, not Altman. Huge apologies.

But it turns out our error contained a grain of intuition. While we were getting mixed up, a spokeswoman for Observer-owner Guardian Media Group, Julie Taylor, tells us a camera crew was shooting a scene for a new film at its Farringdon offices.

Could the director be Robert Altman of Gosford Park and MASH fame? Sadly not, but it was someone with a famous 'A' name. One Woody Allen.

Expect the yet-untitled film, starring Charles Dance as a newspaper editor, to hit the screens next year. Let's hope the script is typo-free.
