Public Sector: Greenwich uses Viking day to woo shoppers

Greenwich Council is trying to woo residents away from out-of-town shopping centres and back into local retail areas with a series of family events.

Promoting town centres such as Woolwich and Eltham, the council is hosting fun days out, including a Viking-themed day last weekend.

Using the area's history as a major Viking camp, the council took local families on board a replica longboat.

A spokesman said the council wanted to show how local towns 'have been regenerated over the past few years'.
