Voluntary Sector: National Trust to host fungi events

The National Trust is attempting to channel public interest in garden flora and fauna into its 'fungal foray' nature awareness activities.

Viewing figures for programmes such as the BBC's Bill Oddie-presented Springwatch have encouraged the trust to stage a week-long 'festival of fungi' at its Croft Castle property in Herefordshire from 23 October.

Events at other trust properties will follow.

NT spokesperson Joanna Crosse said visitor numbers to its properties were improving, enabling the trust to encourage more people to learn about the countryside. She said it was keen to generate awareness of its role as an educator on nature.
