Voluntary Sector: Grain quits RSPCA as press director

The RSPCA is looking for a head of press, publications and new media after Ann Grain left the charity to go freelance.

Grain, who has held the position since she was promoted from head of press two years ago, was responsible for a team of 28 at the charity and reported to director of animal welfare promotion John Rolls.

While at the RSPCA she was behind the charity's lobbying for changes in animal legislation.

Prior to her RSPCA role she was director of external affairs at The British Retail Consortium from 1997 to 2000, and before that was the first female news editor of food and drink publication The Grocer.

Grain said her initial plan was to freelance as a consultant but was 'in discussions with another party' over setting up a crisis management agency working across the food and drink, retail, FMCG and charity sectors later in the year.
