Public Sector: Nottingham calls for scooter safety

Nottingham City Council has teamed up with local police to clamp down on the illegal use of motorised scooters such as Gopeds.

Ads in local media and on bus shelters are urging residents not to use the machines on public roads and pavements - they are only legal to use on private land.

The council is also contacting petrol station managers to warn them that selling fuel to riders is 'perpetuating the illegal use of the machines', judged the biggest nuisance in a residents' survey.

'These machines are dangerous. Young riders don't wear helmets and have no training. They can only be driven on private ground,' said a council PRO.
