Public Sector: Merseytravel beefs up comms unit

Passenger transport executive Merseytravel has signed up Warrington Council senior comms officer Gary Jenkins to become its head of media.

The move came this week as the body braced itself for the Government's final decision on its £170m bid for a tramline. The Merseytram project has been dogged with problems since its conception five years ago.

The Government refused to support the scheme last year following concerns over spiralling costs, but plans for the 11-mile line between Liverpool and Kirkby were amended and have been provisionally passed by the Department for Transport.

Jenkins will report to marketing manager Lindsey Harrison. The post has been vacant for over a year.

Merseytravel continues to retain Bircham Dyson Bell for PA.

Warrington is now on the hunt to replace Jenkins, who has been at the Cheshire council for five years and reports to head of comms Bob Williams.
