Chime Communications has poached Edelman board director and head of financial comms and IR Stephen Benzikie as it looks to rebuild its City practice.
Benzikie, who has led Edelman's financial comms offering since 2001, is to join Chime's financial PR operation, Bell Pottinger Corporate & Financial, later this year in the newly created role of managing director.
Benzikie will report to BP C&F chief executive Tim Ryan, who said the appointment reflected 'the importance of financial comms within the Chime group'.
Claire Cater, who left APCO UK earlier this year from her post as director of corporate comms, will also join BP C&F as director.
The appointments are a shot in the arm for the Chime shop, which last year lost directors Charlotte Lambkin and John Coles. This year it lost the account for Asian retail banking giant Standard Chartered.
The move will also reunite Benzikie with his former boss Charles Cook, who joined BP C&F as deputy chairman after Chime Communications bought his firm, Grandfield, in March (PRWeek, 4 March).
Cook had been chairman of Grandfield, where Benzikie was corporate head from 1998 to 2001 before leaving for Edelman. Benzikie joined Grandfield from the Daily Mail, where he was a City reporter.
