Bedfordshire County Council is trying to shake off its troubled reputation and has begun recruiting for a permanent comms team.
Interim head of comms Julie Hollings, a director of Kent-based agency DTW, said the hunt followed a review of the council's performance by chief executive Andrea Hill, who joined last August. It is seeking six PROs to take the function in-house from outsourcing company HBS.
In 2002 the Audit Commission rated Bedfordshire 'the worst council in the country'; its last Comprehensive Performance Assessment was 'weak'.
In April interim comms head Carol Lamb quit after just one day as it emerged she had left her previous Knowsley Council job after intimate pictures of her were found on a work laptop.
