Internet router and IT security firm 3Com has begun a major shake-up of its comms, which could jeopardise a five-year relationship with UK agency Spark Marketing Communications.
It is understood that the company plans to consolidate PR across the EMEA region, where it uses 16 separate agencies.
A source familiar with the process put the value of the combined B2B briefs at around £360,000, with a lead agency based in the UK likely to bill around £120,000. 3Com is thought to have shortlisted two agencies for the combined account.
The move is partly motivated by the US-based company's need to reposition itself following the acquisition of Tipping Point earlier this year.
Tipping Point provides IT protection services for big businesses and government agencies, as well as academic institutions.
3Com PR EMEA and analyst relations manager Benjamin Perlzweig declined to comment.
