Diary: Hit or Miss... US military's London warning

Londoners may not have been intimidated by last week's terrorist attack, but the mighty US Air Force certainly was. Personnel based in Suffolk - home of America's F15 Strike Eagle bombers - were told to not go within the M25. Five days later, with the Corporation of London saying 'carrying on life as usual is the best answer to the terrorist bullies', and the FT suggesting the decree 'sat uncomfortably' with Bush's demand that the US 'stands together with Britain in the face of terrorism', the order was rescinded.
