Diary: Hit or Miss ... Lions' media tactics under fire

Alastair Campbell's job as 'media adviser' for the Lions rugby tour was generating negative copy long before last weekend's mauling by the All Blacks. The New Zealand Herald dismissed Sir Clive Woodward's 'slick presentation' of the tour-ending 'spear tackle' on Brian O'Driscoll as the work of the 'spinmeister sidekick'.

The Times suggested winning 'a significant game of rugby' might be a better media relations plan, while The Guardian railed against what it saw as a 'disgracefully stage-managed campaign' to highlight All Black foul play.
